Rockport Donut Shop Opens to Hurricane Victims
Matthew Otero opened his donut shop, Rockport Donuts, on Saturday, August 26th in Rockport, the day after Harvey’s initial landfall. The building was mostly undamaged by the storm, and Otero, his wife, and his mother-in-law used a generator to power the shop while serving the occasional customer donuts, kolaches, and hot coffee. A small inflatable boat sat in the middle of the shop, catching water leaking in from the damaged roof. Otero told the Wall Street Journal’s Erin Ailworth that his goal was to “get everybody hot coffee.”
