Governor Abbott Shares Public Safety Wins

In 2025, Governor Abbott cracked down on crime and passed common-sense public safety laws to hold criminals accountable.

1. Texas Ended the “Revolving Door” Bail System

Signed into law in June, the strongest bail reform package in Texas history now allows judges to deny bail to defendants charged with rape, murder, and human trafficking. Prosecutors can appeal bad bail decisions, and taxpayer funds can no longer be used to bail out criminals.

Governor Abbott confronted a crisis, a bail system that repeatedly released dangerous criminals back onto the streets. The Constitution of the State of Texas has been rewritten to ensure career, violent criminals are behind bars.

2. Under Abbott’s Leadership, Texas Put 135 Repeat Violent Offenders Behind Bars

As a result of Governor Abbott’s Texas Repeat Offender Program, violent criminals across the Houston area were taken off the streets and put behind bars. The operation resulted in 193 arrests in just two months, along with drug and weapon seizures, fugitive arrests, and the recovery of stolen vehicles.

The safety of Texans is the state’s top priority, and Governor Abbott will work to ensure that every Texan can live their lives without fear.

3. Human Traffickers Now Face the Toughest Penalties Possible

House Bill 2306 and Senate Bill 1212 increased all human trafficking offenses to first-degree felonies and eliminated parole for traffickers who target children or disabled Texans.

Texas does all it can to ensure that human traffickers never walk the streets again. These two bills help achieve that goal.

4. Texas Removes 31 Illegal Immigrant Drivers from Texas Highways

A joint state and federal operation along I-40 led to the apprehension of 31 illegal immigrant drivers, removing unsafe vehicles and protecting Texas motorists.

When illegal immigrants break the law and illegally drive on our roads, they endanger the lives of countless Americans. Texas will continue to work with our federal partners to maintain safe roads and apprehend illegal immigrants to protect our communities.

5. Texas Blocked Foreign Adversaries from Owning Land and Infrastructure

Governor Greg Abbott signed House Bill 128, Senate Bill 17, and Senate Bill 1349 into law to protect Texans against threats from hostile foreign adversaries like Russia, Iran, and China.

These laws prohibit hostile foreign nations and criminal organizations from acquiring land, accessing critical infrastructure, and engaging in transnational repression within Texas.

6. Texas Created the Largest State Cybersecurity Command in America

The Texas Cyber Command creates a defense against constant cyberattacks from criminal networks and hostile foreign actors, positioning Texas as a national leader in cybersecurity defense.

Texas faces cybercrime attacks that occur thousands of times every single second of every single day. That’s why Governor Abbott signed a law to create the Texas Cyber Command, with the mission to protect our state from bad actors.
