Texas Civil Justice League Endorses Governor Greg Abbott for Reelection
AUSTIN – The Texas Civil Justice League (TCJL) today endorsed Governor Greg Abbott for reelection. Governor Abbott has altered the course of the judiciary for decades to come by appointing more than 200 conservative judges and justices during his tenure, including seven of the nine justices currently serving on the Texas Supreme Court.
“As a former district judge, Texas Supreme Court justice, and Texas Attorney General, Governor Abbott appreciates the importance of an independent, experienced, and qualified judiciary. His record of appointments to the state’s trial and appellate benches equals or surpasses any governor in our history,” said Carol Sims, TCJL Executive Director. “Under his watch, Texas has maintained and enhanced its reputation as a forum where litigants will get a fair shake, regardless of their politics.”
“TCJL believes that the Governor’s most important duty is to appoint good jurists, and Governor Abbott has certainly done that,” Sims continued. “But that’s not all. Thanks to his leadership, Texas has become the 30th state with a business court for complex business disputes and added a statewide court of appeals for appeals from the business court and litigation involving the state. He has also advocated for important reforms to the State Commission on Judicial Conduct to hold judges accountable for not doing their jobs, improvements to judicial education and training, and civil justice reforms addressing abuses in the litigation process.”
Established in 1986, TCJL is a non-profit 501(c)(6) organization dedicated to improving the state’s economy by assuring that the courts operate efficiently, impartially, and independently and that the laws governing individual and business liability are fair, reasonable, and predictable.
