Greg Abbott is protecting our communities

Texas law enforcement agencies are lining up to support Governor Abbott’s historic re-election bid.

Organizations including the Texas Municipal Police Association (TMPA) and the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT) recognize that Governor Abbott is the only candidate that will continue to keep Texas and Texas law enforcement safe.

“CLEAT is proud to endorse Governor Abbott for another term as our Governor,” said CLEAT Executive Director Bob Leonard. “Our 28,000 members protecting Texas communities appreciate the leadership that Governor Abbott has shown as well as his unwavering support. Governor Abbott has the backs of Texas law enforcement.”

“The Texas Municipal Police Association has supported Greg Abbott since the very beginning of his statewide career,” TMPA First Vice President Bill Nelson said. “For more than two decades, he has backed Texas law enforcement, opposed efforts to defund the police, and fought to ensure officers have the resources, protections, and respect they deserve.”

Governor Abbott was also endorsed by the Houston Police Officers’ Union, Dallas Police Association, San Antonio Police Officers’ Association, and more.

Governor Abbott has signed landmark laws that close critical loopholes and back the blue. In 2025, Governor Abbott approved the strongest bail reform package in Texas history. Now, judges can deny bail to defendants charged with rape, murder, and human trafficking. Prosecutors can appeal bad bail decisions, and taxpayer funds can no longer be used to bail out criminals.

This ensures that LEOs are safer on the streets. Far too many officers have been shot and killed in the line of duty by career criminals out on low or no-cash bonds. Far too many officers have experienced the frustration of arresting a criminal, only to see them walking the street and harming the citizens they serve again. This bail package will ensure that victims feel empowered to speak up and law enforcement will have the tools to keep dangerous criminals behind bars.

Other recent wins for law enforcement include House Bill 2306 and Senate Bill 1212, which made all human trafficking offenses first-degree felonies and eliminated parole for traffickers who target children or disabled Texans. These laws mark another nail in the coffin of the revolving door bail system in Texas.

Also, as a result of Governor Abbott’s Texas Repeat Offender Program, violent criminals across the Houston area were taken off the streets. The operation resulted in 193 arrests in just two months, along with drug and weapon seizures, fugitive arrests, and the recovery of stolen vehicles.

However, nothing is more important to ensure public safety than keeping our southern border closed. Thanks to Operation Lone Star, Governor Abbott partnered with Texas law enforcement to stop drug traffickers, rapists, and murderers from compromising the safety of Texans. Together, Governor Abbott and Texas LEOs did what the Biden administration could not – stopped the spread of deadly fentanyl, curtailed the cartels, and required state authorities to collaborate with the Trump administration to stop the open border catastrophe.

The Deputy Sheriff’s Association of Bexar County Chairman Ochoa confirmed Governor Abbott’s unwavering dedication to securing southern border communities. “Governor Abbott has demonstrated consistent, meaningful support for law enforcement across Texas—and especially in the communities of South Texas, where our deputies face unique challenges.”

This is only the beginning of Governor Abbott’s collaboration with law enforcement. Together, in the next four years, they will weld shut the revolving door bail system in the state through even more stringent reforms. They will establish a statewide prosecutor. And they will hold rogue district attorneys accountable for their endangerment of victims’ lives.
