Democratic states like California, New York, and Minnesota have made law enforcement a political target, reinforcing the narrative that defying men and women in uniform – and sacrificing public safety – is the fashionable thing to do.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has transformed the state into ground zero for anti-police agitation, going so far as to issue a “warning order” to prepare the Minnesota National Guard to thwart immigration enforcement in the state. Meanwhile, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has made clear his disregard for law enforcement officers, condemning ICE agents for their presence in Minneapolis and crudely demanding that they leave the city altogether, immediately.
In California and New York, the same distrust exists. Progressive leaders in California and New York are pushing activist rhetoric over enforcement, treating federal officers as adversaries rather than partners in public safety.
Last week, newly-elected New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani renewed his vow to resist federal immigration crackdowns, promising to uphold the city’s sanctuary-style policies. On the West Coast, California Governor Gavin Newsom has taken legislative action to undermine the officers who keep communities safe. He not only signed laws restricting cooperation with federal immigration authorities, but he also signed policies protecting the criminal offenders from deportation.
Texas, by contrast, remains a law-and-order state, backing the officers who keep communities secure and enforcing the law without apology. Unlike Democrat states, we do not side with the victimizers over the victims.
Over the weekend, when anti-ICE demonstrations turned unlawful, Texas Governor Greg Abbott immediately deployed Texas Department of Public Safety troopers to stop the incident before it escalated into a riot.
In a statement to Breitbart Texas, Governor Abbott said:
“In Texas, we back the men and women in uniform. We enforce the law and put public safety as a top priority. What happened in Minnesota is the direct result of years of reckless and dangerous rhetoric from national Democratic leaders. Federal, state, and local law enforcement officers have the right to defend themselves while carrying out their lawful responsibility. Using a vehicle as a weapon, threatening officers, or attempting to obstruct the enforcement of the law is dangerous and inexcusable. ICE agents should never have to fear for their lives for doing their jobs.”
Governor Abbott has built one of the strongest pro-law enforcement records in the country – and he hasn’t blinked once. His no-nonsense approach to public safety has directly resulted in laws blocking cities from defunding their police departments, the overhaul of the state’s broken bail system, the expansion of anti gang operations, and unwavering support for ICE in its fight against human smuggling, cartel networks, and violent transnational gangs.
While the rest of the country grapples with the national debate over public safety, Texas, under Governor’s Abbott’s leadership, stands proudly with law enforcement.
